Ennerdale, looking west towards the coast

Sitting in the "Wild" Ennerdale Valley, Ennerdale is the most westerly and the most remote of the lakes. As a result visitor numbers are lower than for the other lakes, making this a peaceful and tranquil place to enjoy majestic scenery. About 2.5 miles long, the upper areas of the valley are heavily planted with conifers, giving an almost alpine appearance.

The major landowners of this valley have formed the Wild Ennerdale Partnership with the vision "to allow the evolution of Ennerdale as a wild valley for the benefit of people, relying more on natural processes to shape its landscape and ecology".
